Shane Warne in World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2008 - Las Vegas

July 11, 2008

First a bit about the World Series of Poker (WSOP)

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is the largest set of poker tournaments in the world. It is held annually in Las Vegas, and since 2007 has consisted of 55 events, of which all but the “Main Event” are finished in just over a month. It has poker players participating from all over the globe. The “Main Event” is generally played over a period of 11 days.

WSOP 2008 is currently underway at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. It began on 3rd July with 6844 participants and will culminate on 13th July 2008 with 1 winner who will pocket a handsome total of $9,119,517. Shane Warne, the second highest wicket taker in test match cricket and the captain of Rajasthan Royals who won the inaugural Indian Premiere League (IPL), is living up to his image of being a flamboyant. He is one of the 6844 participants of the WSOP main event this year. And being a born competitor that he is, he is giving a good fight so far. He has already advanced toi the 3rd round (total 7 rounds) which will begin on 10th July at noon and will end in the early hours of 11th July. This is no mean achievement considering that only 720 players have advanced to the third round. Being a party freak that he is, he threw a grand bash for his friend at the Palazzo (the newest casino on the strip) to celebrate his victory in the second round.

I would love to see him advance as far as he can. You can get updates about his performance and his experience on his blog @ http://www.shanewarne.com/blog
