A buyers guide to LCD TV
October 5, 2008
CRT TVs are going to be history soon…the only thing that is stopping LCD/Plams TV in taking over the market is the huge price tag that come associated with it. But, sooner or later, with the competition in this sector increasing and more and more people going the LCD way, manufacturers will start earning on volumes rather than margins.
I came across an article on indiatimes infotech on things to consider while buying an LCD TV. I agree with all of it. Apart from all that the article mentions, I would also like to stress the importance of research on the warranty the TV comes with and the cost of repairing it if something goes bad.
Here is the article:-
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dilbert on motivation-hilarious
September 28, 2008
Though the current meltdown of the US financial sector has not affected the software industry directly (i strictly mean large scale layoffs here), it has affected everyone indirectly in more ways than one.
Came across this interesting take on “motivating the workforce” from Dilbert.

If money isn’t loosened up, this sucker is going to go down.
September 28, 2008
“If money isn’t loosened up, this sucker is going to go down.” - George Bush on the economy.
George Bush has done it again. Whether he can come up with a long term solution for the current crisis (i don’t believe that bailout is a solution. It is just deferring the crisis) is anybody’s guess. But one thing is sure, he never misses any opportunity to come up with his bushisms.
This is what Conan O’Brien of NBC had to say on his late night show. “One thing is clear from this statement of George Bush. And that is he does write his own speeches.” Hilarious indeed!!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sarah Palin’s first nationally televised interview after being nominated the running mate of John McCain
September 28, 2008
This is an interview that Sarah Palin did with Charlie Gibson of ABC News. Charlie Gibson is ABC New’s inhouse expert on international matters. So Sarah Palin would be naive to expect the interview to not deal with internation affiairs concerning the US.
I felt that she was totally underprepared and out of place. She was not able to tackle even one issue with confidence, be it Iraq or Israel or Pakistan or Russia. She wanted to talk about american econony and the reforms that she wanted to bribg about. If those are the type of questins that she wanted to answer than she was clearly sitting in the wrong interview [:)]
Here are the excperts from the interview:

Trust Vote more interesting than an Ind-Pak T20 final
July 20, 2008
The trust vote to be held on July 22nd in the Indian parliament is in all probability going to see a nail biting finish. If the follow up to the vote is anything to go by, lots of surprises are in store for us. Indian politics has all come down to the numbers now. Ideologies are non existent or have taken a back seat. The marginal parties have suddenly come into the limelight. Its their moment to milk the cow (Indian taxpayers money). Every single MP has become invaluable and the going price for each MP who is on sale is several crores (Rs 25 crore to Rs 100 crore as per newspaper reports). Neither the UPA, nor the NDA and UNPA wants to leave anything to chance. Remember how the AB Vajpayee lost the vote of confidence in 1999 by just 1 vote (269 to 270) and the country was pushed to fresh elections.
But we will not know anything till the verdict is out. It is total chaos out there. BSP clamis to have support of 5 to 7 SP MPs. Some of them have openly switched sides. On the other hands SP’s Amar Singh says that 10 BSP MPs are having chai-pani in his house. Shibu Soren (JMM spuremo) has already pledged their support for UPA afte brokering a great deal (Union cabinet minister berth for himself, jharkhand’s deputy CM’s post for son and a Mos for one of his MPs). All this on the basis of 5 MPs that he has. Dewe Gowds of JD (S) with 3 MPs and RLD of Ajit Singh with 3 MPs have decided to vote against the UPA. Omar Abdulla of NC says that he has made up his mind on whom to vote for but will not make it public until the debate of the floor of the parliament. On the other hand, congress clamis to have poached several BJP MPs and so does the BJP. We will not know anything for sure until the final ball is bowled (oops….until the final vote is cast) on July 22nd.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Test Server Performance using Load Testing
July 16, 2008
Load Testing
Load Testing is testing the performance of an application server when it is under heavy user load. Lets take www.amazon.com for example. Assume it gets 500,000 hits on an average per day. The systems architects have designed the system to support 40,000 concurrent users without any performance hit. They also vouch that the system will not crash for 100,000 concurrent users, but, will have a 30% performance hit once the number of concurrent users exceed 40,000. They also claim that the system will be able to absorb 1 million hits without needing a server/db cleanup/restart. Moreover, amazon expects an insane amount of load during the holiday season. So they would like to know how the system would behave under immense load like 500,000 concurrent users and if the system is scalable so that they could make informed decision. Performance degradation or even worse failure of the webapp during the holiday season even for half an hour can lead to millions of dollars of losses in revenue. Just ask turbotax who had to refund millions of dollars because their online tax filing system crashed due to heavy load a day before the tax filing deadline in 2007. Click me to know more »
